Working principle of Q-Fog salt spray testing machine

Cyclic corrosion testing is the repeated testing of samples exposed to different testing environments. Simple testing generally involves two different testing conditions: salt spray and drying. Complex programs, such as car testing, require multiple cycles, including moisture or condensation in addition to salt spray and drying. With the Q-Fog salt spray testing machine, you can run these cycles in a testing chamber. With a programmable controller, you can easily set up complex test loops or run pre-set programs.

The cyclic corrosion test exposes the sample to a series of different environmental conditions in a repetitive cycle. The Q-FOG salt spray testing machine has a more natural erosion effect on materials than traditional salt spray testing. Studies have shown that the relative corrosion rate, structure, and morphology of the Q-FOG salt spray testing machine are closer to outdoor corrosion and have a better correlation with outdoor corrosion. The application industries include: coatings and paint decorative layers, metal parts and electroplating layers, aviation and military components, power and electronic systems, etc.

Salt spray function

When running the salt spray function, the cyclic corrosion test chamber and the conventional salt spray test chamber have the same function.

The corrosive solution in the built-in water tank is transported to the nozzle by the pump.

Compressed air is humidified through a bubble tower during the process leading to the nozzle. (excluding Prohesion test)

The corrosive solution is atomized through a nozzle.

The box heater maintains the set temperature inside the box.

Drying function

When running the drying function, indoor air is transported to the test chamber through a fan and heated by an air heater. A low humidity testing condition can be generated inside the box. The temperature inside the box is jointly controlled by the box heater and the air heater.

Moisture function

When operating the humidity function, humidify the box with hot steam to maintain a relative humidity of 100%.

The steam generator maintains the set temperature inside the box. Only the CCT model salt spray testing machine can operate the moisture function.

Characteristics of Salt Spray Testing Machine Models

SSP model: used for Prohesion testing or traditional salt spray testing

The Q-FOG SSP salt spray testing machine can perform numerous accelerated corrosion tests, including Prohesion, ASTM B117 and G85, BS 3900 F4 and F9, DIN 50.021, and ISO 9227 tests.

The Prohesion test uses fast cycling, rapidly changing low humidity drying cycles, and different corrosive solutions to provide more realistic testing. Many researchers have found that this test is very useful for industrial coatings.

Continuous salt spray exposure testing is used for corrosion resistance testing of parts and coatings. The application scope includes electroplating and coating surfaces, aerospace and military components, as well as electrical/electronic systems. Most tests are conducted according to specific standards, such as ASTM B117 (salt spray) specification and BS 3900 F4 specification. These tests are widely used for relative corrosion testing. They usually operate at higher temperatures, excluding the drying cycle, and require heating and humidification of the air during spraying.

CCT model: used for corrosion research and automotive cyclic testing functions

The Q-FOG CCT salt spray testing machine not only has the advantages of all SSP models, but also adds high humidity function, that is, 100% relative humidity.

Nowadays, automotive corrosion testing methods typically require exposing the sample to repeated cycles of salt spray, high humidity, low humidity, dry and static environments. These testing methods were initially converted manually between several testing boxes as much as possible. The multifunctional Q-FOG CCT salt spray testing machine can automatically perform these cyclic tests in a single box.
